The Hong Kong police reported that the
protesters are on the roads and blocked traffic across the city. Thousands of protesters
came on roads on Sunday night and in the Monday morning the protesters was
breaking the law rules.
The police took strict action against
a student-led demonstration; they use tear gas and batons to stop the violence.
The government urged the protesting
residents to end the violence in this busy commercial city, and then city could
return normal as before.
In Hong Kong more protesters pushing
back against Beijing: huge numbers took to the streets over controversial
security laws in 2003 and plans for compulsory “patriotic education” two years
ago – on both occasions prompting backdowns, though few expect a similar
outcome this time.
“We want to protect the democracy of
Hong Kong,” said Templi Wong, 17 and businessman Lawrence Ku said “Hong Kong’s
freedoms have been getting less and less since the handover. We just want to
have the freedom like before.”
Hong Kong has shown its spirit
when it under pressure from Beijing, but with China’s economic growth it faces increasingly
assertive leadership.
In Hong Kong the protests come
just days before the October 1 National Day holiday and there will be no
fireworks to celebrate National day this year.
