In 1984, Bernadette Protti, a 15 year old teen killed her co student Kirsten Costas, a cheerleader.Bernadette Protti was released from prison in 1992 at the age of 23. The same year the story, based on an article by Randall Sullivan entitled "Death of a Cheerleader," was made into a tv movie called "A Friend to Die for." The movie portrayed Tori Spelling as Kirsten (”Stacy Lockwood”) and Kellie Martin as Bernadette (”Angela Delvecchio”)
Kirsten became the expression of Bernadette’s “failure” and the insecure 15-year-old fixated on a passing remark Kirsten made to her on a ski trip earlier in the year and stabbed Kristen with a 1' kitchen knife. What Bernadette Protti did was unimaginable and far far from the right thing but what needs to be kept in mind is that a teenage kid these days is probably far worse peer pressure than in the 80's. We need to see where we are going!
