An unarmed black boy died in the
street on Saturday by a police officer in a St. Louis suburb. The killing came
after a struggle for the officer’s gun.
The 18 year old Michael Brown had
been shot multiple times after a scuffle involving the officer, Brown and one
other person a predominantly black suburb of the city on Saturday in Ferguson. This
skepticism just came out of the African-American community.
Afterwards, police noted that
some people looted a convenient store and several other stores, a boutique and
a small grocery store were broken and looted near the shooting place.
Hundreds of people gathered at
the scene of shooting to questioning from the police and light candles for
Brown. Mr. Brown’s stepfather, Louis Head, held a cardboard sign that said,
“Ferguson police just executed my unarmed son.” He said my son was just planning
to begin the college classes on Monday.
The St. Louis County Police chief,
Jon Belmar said the man had already been killed after he had assaulted a police
officer and the two had struggled over the officer’s gun inside his patrol car.
At least one shot was fired from inside the car, at a news conference on
Sunday.
A city councilman in St. Louis, Antonio
French said that he was unsatisfied with the Police department’s explanation of
the shooting. He said “I find it hard to believe” and it is continuously
pushing Ferguson residents, Brown’s parents and family members into stress.
“Any other details, including the
reason as to why the encounter occurred and the initial struggle ensued, are
still a part of the continuing investigation,” the police said in a statement.
