Hanukkah

Hanukkah is known as the “festival of lights” which starts from Tuesday December 16th and ends at Wednesday December 24. It is the eight day festival where families will gather to light the traditional menorah.

It starts at the time of sunset; it is the festival of special blessings and to exchange the gifts from one to another. A candy gift Gelt main gift which gives on this festival.

Hanukkah is considered a minor Jewish holiday. It is celebrated after the second century war that was fought for freedom. After getting victory of the Maccabees over the Greek Syrian army, the festival celebrates for the rededication of the temple in Jerusalem.

The children game “Dreidel” is also the part of the Hanukkah; the game includes four Hebrew letters on four sides such as Nun, Gimmel, Hay, and Shin. The traditional foods are potato "latkas" and for many, jelly donuts.

The ancient and outnumbered Maccabees who triumphed over their Hellenistic oppressors to preserve their faith — is not based in the Torah, the Hebrew Bible.
